Lowland Scotland

There’s more distillation in the Lowlands than any other Scottish region, but its days as a significant single malt player are consigned to history. This is the home of the blend, and of the large quantities of grain whisky which form its foundation – but a few producers keep up the trademark light and grassy Lowland malt style. Today few hardy Lowlands distilleries continuing to produce the gentle, grassy and easy-drinking single malts that are the signature style of the region, including Glenkinchie just east of Edinburgh and Auchentoshan on the outskirts of Glasgow – whose triple-distilled whisky offers an echo of Lowland distillation history.
