Description

Ardbeg Distillery is located on the south coast of the island of Islay and has been producing whisky since 1798. Ardbeg is considered to be one of the most heavily peated whiskys in the world.

Uigeadail is the fearsome dark storm of Islay. Its enormity is almost intimidating. Its might and majesty are so beyond the scope traditionally seen in such a young and core range bottling. It is like standing on the shores of Islay while the skies tear open above, like being lambasted by gusts of rain and hurricane winds, and feeling grateful simply for having stood so close to the vortex and lived to tell. This is nature’s fiercest, distilled, and decanted.

Ardbeg Uigeadail derives from the Scotch Gaelic for ‘Dark and Mysterious Place’ and is named for the Loch from whence Ardbeg draws its waters. Jim Murray’s 2009 World Whisky of the Year, this cask-strength, non-chill-filtered bottle exudes breathtaking balance and complexity.

Its nose is multifaceted, with notes of peat and little flourishes of dark sugar, freshly ground espresso beans, cereal notes, and a most sophisticated tar. The palate is led by sweet, ripe fruit and black forest honey, with a good helping of malt. The throne is then usurped by a powerful peat and smoked barley. The finish is very long. Caramel and malt weave their way through peat smoke and dark sugar and just a hint of fresh espresso coffee before it finally peters out.
