Description

Founded in 1856, Cousino-Macul is the only winery established during the nineteenth century that continues in the hands of the founding family. We are a company with tradition, character and identity. For years, we have been concerned about being leaders in wine production, always bearing in mind our values, our history and the excellence of our wines.
Wine Enthusiast gives this wine 92 points. It says, “With brick-colored edges and gritty aromas of turned earth, raw oak, asphalt and berry fruits, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot feels tight, with rubbery tannins. Oak-infused flavors of herbal blackberry, mint and anise finish with notes of licorice and chocolate as well as a touch of heat. Drink through 2021.”
Wine Advocate gives it 90 points, saying,¬† “The ultra-polished Cousino-Macul Lota 2010 might feel a little older than it is, with evolved aromas of forest floor and quite a lot of influence from the barrel with the minty Cabernet aromas from Maipo, not too expressive with something chemical that reminded me of diesel and melted tar in the background. But what worried me is the amount of drying tannins that I found in the palate of a wine that has been in bottle since November 2011, almost four years; I suspect the fruit might fade before the tannins get fully integrated. So have it sooner rather than later with some powerful dishes.”
