Craigellachie 13yr is a very old-fashioned and skillfully crafted whisky that offers a delightful challenge for the palate.

Description

Craigellachie Distillery was established in 1891 in Banffshire, near the village of Craigellachie in Speyside, Scotland. Craigellachie can be translated from Gaelic as “rocky hill.” The majority of the whisky it produces is used in blended Scotch whiskies, such as Dewars.

Craigellachie 13yr is a superb old-fashioned single malt, demonstrating traditionality in the design of the label, the method of production, and the fact that the whisky is un-chill filtered and bottled at 46% alc/vol.

The complexity of this whisky is evident on the nose, displaying a dry and grassy character intertwined with green fruit, accented by subtle notes of cinnamon and a background of malty sweetness, which becomes more pronounced and enriched with vanilla and butterscotch upon the addition of water. The palate offers a rich and creamy experience with complex green fruit flavors and underlying hints of bitterness, earthiness, and charred wood, while a drop of water introduces honey, bitter almonds, burnt toffee, and dark chocolate. The finish is long and woody, leaving a lingering impression of fruit and maltiness that completes this multifaceted tasting journey.
