Description

Highland Park was founded in 1798 and is located in Kirkwall, Orkney Island. It is the most northern distillery in Scotland, about a mile away to the north of Scapa distillery. Highland Park is one of the few distilleries that malt their own barley, it has its own floor maltings and peat beds and two traditional peat-fired kilns. They use a mix of peated and non peated barley, with the total phenol content about 20 ppm. Highland Park is a very renowned distillery, and its single malts constantly win awards in world competitions.

Gordon & MacPhail are one of the biggest and oldest independent bottlers in Scotland, and have been a family run business since 1895. They source the best barrels on the market to age the spirit from various distilleries, and all of their offerings are of tremendous quality, never chill-filtered and no caramel color added. They are also owners of the Benromach distillery – the smallest distillery in Speyside, but one that is famous for producing one of the best artisan single malt Scotch whiskys.

This expression of Highland Park 24yr  was distilled in 1989, aged for 24 years in refill bourbon barrels, and bottled in 2013 at 43% alc/vol.

NOSE: Fresh, malty, ripe fruit, and a hint of aniseed.

PALATE: Creamy, spice, sweet vanilla, toffee, sweet strawberry, charred wood, hint of bonfire embers and ash.
