Lagavulin 16yr is one of the best known heavily peated single malts from the island of Islay.

Description

Lagavulin Distillery was founded in 1816 and is located in the village of Lagavulin on the island of Isla. Lagavulin is known for producing very heavily peated single malts, thanks to using heavily peated barley and short stills with wide necks. It is currently owned by Diageo and is a part of their Classic Malts brands.

Lagavulin 16yr is probably one of the best-known and highly acclaimed single malts on the market, it is a winner of numerous competitions, including double gold in San Francisco International Beverage Competition. It is bottled at 43% alc/vol and peated to about 40ppm.

This Islay whisky boasts one of the most intensely smoky aromas. It’s bold, highly concentrated, and exudes notes of iodine, sweet spices, mature sherry, and creamy vanilla. The texture is remarkably dense and luxurious, offering a substantial fusion of malt and sherry flavors, characterized by both fruity sweetness and a delightful richness. The presence of significant peat and oak notes adds depth and power. The finish is notably long and spicy, accompanied by flavors of figs, dates, peat smoke, and a lingering touch of vanilla.
