Stolichnaya Red Label is a clear, grain-based vodka. Grain vodkas are the most popular and tend to be smooth and fruity. They generally do not require as much distillation as vegetable-based vodkas, as grain produces less impurities during the fermentation process.
Fermentation of Stolichnaya starts with wheat, rye grains, and artesian water. The fermentation takes about 60 hours. Once fermentation is complete, the resulting liquid is distilled three times to a strength of 96.4% alcohol by volume. This spirit is then diluted to bottling strength with more artesian well water. It is then filtered through quarts, sand, activated charcoal, and finally through woven cloth.
