Description

Tamdhu distillery was founded in 1897 and is located in the town of Knockondo, in the Speyside region of Scotland. It is one of the last distilleries to malt all of its barley right on the site by a mechanical saladin. The majority of the spirit produced by the distillery is used in the blended scotch whiskys, such as Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark. The single malt is available mostly from the independent bottlers. The Tamdhu distillery has been mothballed from 2010 till 2013, but the current owners – Ian MacLeod Distillers, have resumed production in May.

This new official bottling of Tamdhu 10yr¬† is exciting for several reasons. First of all, the new owners acquired a fairly large stock of whisky with the purchase of the distillery, and that’s how they were able to release this bottling so quickly. And, as so happens, there is a quite large percentage of older whiskys in this bottle, which adds a lot of complexity to this spirit. Also, there is no artificial coloring, no chill-filtration, bottled at 43% alc/vol. A beautiful all-sherry single malt! A true gem!
