Description

The legacy of Sassicaia began in 1944, when Mario Incisa acquired Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vine cuttings from France and planted them on a sloping hillside of the San Guido estate. Years later, Sassicaia was officially born. Since the late 1960s, the Sassicaia name has represented a standard of quality that is without compromise. This rich and ageworthy blend consists of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc in the 1985 vintage. The grapes are hand picked, destemmed, crushed and fermentation is set off by natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Aging ultimately takes place in 225-litre French oak barriques, approximately 30% new, for 18-22 months depending on vintage.

Robert Parker from 4/18/14 “1985 Sassicaia- possibly one of the 2-4 greatest wines made in the 20th century- a bucket list, immortal effort- still a deep ruby/purple, oodles of cassis and blackberry fruit, a profound purity and fullness on the palate that is seamless…had this twice from the estate at the gala dinner in Kuala Lumpur March 8 (from magnums), and it is a mind-blowing wine…can last another 25 years+”

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 1985 has a 99 point score from Wine Spectator and 100 point from Wine Advocate. Truly an exceptional wine!
