Description

WhistlePig stands as a world-class whiskey and one of the few 100% rye whiskeys currently available in today’s market, earning distinctions such as being a 2011 Ultimate Beverage Challenge Finalist with 94 points, receiving 96 points from Wine Enthusiast, and being recognized as the Wall Street Journal’s Top Rye Whiskey of 2010.

During an extensive year-long search, David Pickerell, the former Master Distiller at Maker’s Mark for 14 years through 2008, discovered this remarkable expression of rye in Canada. It’s important to clarify that WhistlePig was not distilled by Pickerell or at the WhistlePig distillery at that time; rather, it was “sourced” or “found” and subsequently bottled. Collaborating with entrepreneur and former “Apprentice” reality show contestant Raj Bhakta, Pickerell established WhistlePig to bring this exceptional rye whiskey to the public. Presently, the whiskey is bottled at Bhakta’s expansive 500-acre WhistlePig Farm in Vermont. Various sources have mentioned their aspiration to create a fully sustainable “farm-to-bottle” distillery by cultivating the rye grain that will ultimately become WhistlePig Rye Whiskey. While awaiting the production of their own distilled product, WhistlePig’s current offering provides a satisfying interim option.

The whiskey’s nose is rich and full, offering initial notes of allspice, ginger, nutmeg, clove, orange peel, and anise, complemented by woody hints of oak, char, and caramel, with a subtle touch of honey. On the palate, it boasts complexity, richness, and full-bodied character, opening with warm, sweet, and floral tones accompanied by caramel and vanilla notes, followed by the flavors of rye spice and mint. The taste evolves to embrace butterscotch and dark chocolate. The finish is notably long, crisp yet creamy, leaving behind a warmth and lingering butterscotch nuances.

This spectacular rye has been aged for ten years and is bottled at 100 proof, offering a limited quantity for discerning enthusiasts.
