Long Island, New York. Pinot Noir. Sustainable. Nice weather, cool temperatures and a long season were the perfect mix for making excellent Pinot Noir. Silky medium body, concentrated flavor, with hints of strawberry, cherry, hibiscus, clove and vanilla. Great wine to pair with roasted mushrooms risotto and gruyere cheese.

This one, Marjorie’s Rosé named for Marjorie McCall, McCall Wines founder Russ McCall’s mother is yet another absolutely stunning example of an exceptional Long Island rosé. The sustainably farmed grapes for this wine are hand picked and crushed with a very short skin contact time to impart the lovely pale pink color of this rosé. Marjorie’s Rosé is so soft, smooth and easily drinkable, the one problem you may have with it is how fast it disappears from your glass. The rosé is created with a combination of 51% syrah and 49% merlot. It is fruit forward and filled with the flavors of black cherry and ripe raspberry. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged for three months before bottling. While this wine is perfect for picnics and barbecues, it’s sophisticated enough for seafood dinners, lobster, shrimp, oysters, and clams. It’s also a perfect complement for light summer dishes like salads and fruits.

The Corchaug Estate, Long Island’s largest Pinot Noir vineyard, is a modest 12 acres that are sustainably-farmed and hand-harvested. A light-bodied Pinot that balances dark cherry flavors with nuanced aromas of strawberry and spice, an earthy note, crisp acidity and a firm finish. This wine begins with aromas of candied walnuts and ripe raspberry jam. Dried cranberries mingle with sweet coconut and vanilla. The palate is bursting with flavors of blueberries and mocha. This wine has a structural core of powdery tannins that are lifted with a touch of acidity. This big, bold Merlot will pair well with many dishes and has amazing aging potential. These grapes were sorted in the vineyard with the selective harvest on our Pellenc harvesters. The fruit was not crushed in order to preserve as much whole berry as possible. At he winery, individual lots were fermented in stainless steel tanks. Twice daily pumpovers allowed gentle extraction of color and tannin. This wine was aged for 20 months in 28% New French & American Oak.

This wine has rich aromas of raspberry jam and brandy- macerated cherries. Its luxurious density and beautiful structure are hallmarks of this Russian River Pinot Noir. Round flavors and balanced tannins finish with nuances of vanilla and star anise. Classic Pinot Noir pairings like pan-seared duck breast with a cherry reduction will work very well with this wine; but many other meaty or smoky dishes, even savory mushroom-based sautés and braises, also will be nice pairings. Pinot Noir is one of the most versatile food wines available. Non-traditional matches like baked fish topped with herbs and a Provencal-inspired tomato and garlic sauce are possibilities.
